Clarifier Optimization with Polyacrylamide
Clarifiers fail gradually before they fail visibly. Weak floc, rising blanket, storm dilution, filamentous sludge, and inconsistent primary treatment can all push solids into the overflow.

A careful PAM trial can support solids capture during difficult loading periods, but plant control still comes first.
Measure
TSS, turbidity, sludge blanket, SVI, return sludge concentration, and polymer dose.
Trial
Start with jar tests, then run a controlled plant trial with defined success criteria.
Protect
Do not hide upstream process problems with permanent chemical overdose.
The long article on municipal clarifier optimization with PAM explains a more complete trial framework.
